About Us

Welcome!

Gaupnetunet Hotel & Cabins with Pluscamp Sandvik is a family run business, and every member of the Sandvik family can be seen around the area at different times.

Hans Olav has always found great joy in the tourism industry and took over the operation of Sandvik Camping at a young age. Rarely a day goes by without Hans Olav in action at the area, whether that is behind the reception, in the kitchen or in conversation with the guests. The mother of the house is Bjørg Anette, and she is the glue in the family. Even though Bjørg Anette mostly stays in the background she can still be seen around for a cup of coffee now and then. In 2013 the family decided to expand the business and bought what is today Gaupnetunet Hotel.

Hans Olav also shares his interest in tourism with his oldest daughter, Anja. In 2013 Anja graduated from Western Norway University of Applied Sciences with a bachelor’s degree in Economy and Administration, and soon after she stepped into the role of daily manager at the new hotel. Outside of work, Anja has a strong interest in music, which she shares with her husband Jan Ove. The two of them also run a farm, and Jan Ove is in charge of all the snow plowing during winter and other maintenance work around the hotel and camping. Anja and Jan Ove also have two children together, who can often be seen running around the hotel with an ice cream each in hand.

Number two in the family, Jostein, has also joined the family business. Jostein is a trained electrician, which was his profession for some years, whilst he also helped out at the hotel. In 2020 he changed course, and started working full-time at Gaupnetunet as a chef, and now brings joy to both guests and employees with delicious cakes and dishes.

The youngest in the family, Guro, is studying history in both Norway and around the world. She likes it best when she is able to travel around but can also be seen as a waitress in the restaurant during the summer season.

The hotel and camping are situated in peaceful surroundings but is still central and a good starting point for activities and attractions in the area. We are located in the midst of three national parks and right by the entrance to Jostedalen. In the reception we can help you with information about everything there is to see and experience and find the perfect activities and attractions for you and your group.

Our camping area sits right in an old orchard, where we still harvest fruits and berries. From this we produce our own apple juice and lemonade which you can taste in the hotel restaurant or buy with you back home!
